In My Room

Surfer Girl  /  Brian Wilson/Gary Usher

“In My Room” is almost a prayer. The singer gives us an intimate glimpse  into his private moments of reflection and prayer...

An invitation for each of us to pray - Even if our last conversation with the Lord was long ago.

There's a world where I can go and tell my secrets to
In my room, in my room

Jesus told them, “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done will reward you.”  Matthew 6:6

Would not God have discovered it, since he knows the secrets of the heart? Psalms 44:21

In this world I lock out all my worries and my fears
In my room, in my room

Jesus said to his disciples:  “...I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?
“Consider how the lilies grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith!  And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.  Luke 12:22-31

I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.  Psalm 34:4

The LORD is my light and my salvation — whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life — of whom shall I be afraid?  Psalms 27:1

Do my dreaming and my scheming

Ecclesiastes 5:7 Much dreaming and many words are meaningless. Therefore stand in awe of God.

Psalms 37:7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.

Lie awake and pray

Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”  Mark 14:38

Do my crying and my sighing

Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my sighing.  Psalms 5:1

All my longings lie open before you, O Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you.  Psalms 38:9

The LORD has heard my cry for mercy; the LORD accepts my prayer. Psalm 6:9

Laugh at yesterday

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:
a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance ... Ecclesiastes 3:1; 4

Now it's dark and I'm alone
But I won't be afraid
In my room, in my room
In my room, in my room
In my room, in my room

I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.  John 12:46

Jesus ... said to them:  “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”  Matthew 14:27

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;  in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.  Proverbs 3:5-6

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.  1 Peter 5:7
